The restored Santa Bárbara castle-palace of Cox on its low hill above the town and Vega Baja huerta

Cox

A compact huerta town beneath the Sierra de Callosa, watched by a restored castle-palace and interpreted through an old flour mill turned agricultural museum.

Castle above, water below

A small hill that holds a long settlement history

Cox is arranged between the Acequia de Cox and a low rocky outcrop detached from the Sierra de Callosa. The restored Santa Bárbara castle-palace occupies that hill, only about eighty metres high, and looks across the entire cultivated plain.

Below it, the old flour mill records the other source of local power: moving air and managed water in a working huerta. Together the two buildings make the town's scale and history unusually legible.
